Summary

This study, conducted by Dr. Joon Beom Seo’s research team at Asan Medical Center, analyzed the prognostic impact of the volume doubling time (VDT) of the solid component in part-solid lung adenocarcinomas. The researchers performed chest CT scans on 122 patients at least twice, utilizing Aview semi-automated software to perform 3D segmentation of both the entire lesion and its solid component to calculate respective VDTs. The analysis revealed that when the VDT of the solid component was less than 200 days, it significantly impacted recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS), making it a stronger prognostic factor than the whole lesion's VDT. This study underscores the importance of focusing on the solid component when assessing the growth rate of lung adenocarcinomas.
