In this column, we would like to talk about the “task” that many people easily mention but find difficult to understand, and relate it to our company's products to make it a little easier to understand.


What is 'assignment'?

I think many of you have heard of projects under various names such as 'assignments', 'national projects', 'government projects', and 'R&D projects'.

Projects, as they are commonly referred to, are the names given to individual projects carried out by the government's key ministries (Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Ministry of Health and Welfare, etc.) as 'national research and development projects'. There are numerous sub-projects under the national R&D project, and the sub-projects are composed of numerous tasks.

For example, Core Line Soft and Vuno are each carrying out tasks within the same sub-project, the “Support Project for Commercialization of Technology for Innovative Medical Device Companies,” and our company is carrying out an overseas clinical trial. Core Line Soft has successfully carried out various tasks, including the HeLP project, the thoracic-abdominal-metastatic cancer project, the overseas clinical trial project, and the PE project, and as a result of carrying out these tasks, we have succeeded in commercializing them or are currently in the process of commercializing them.

Why do we do assignments?

Many companies, from large corporations to start-ups, are carrying out tasks for various reasons and purposes. Among them, I will explain what advantages there are for small and medium-sized companies or venture companies like our company.
 

First, financial support through assignments. From the perspective of a company, the burden of research and development costs for technology development is high and the funds are relatively insufficient, so the company can find a way out through the project. During the period of carrying out the project, the government grants are provided to cover various expenses such as labor costs, research equipment, and overseas travel expenses, allowing the company to focus on research and development.
Second, technological innovation. While carrying out the project, you can conduct more challenging research and development to speed up technological innovation and reduce the gap with global institutions, and sometimes strive to develop more innovative technologies.

Third, it is the accumulation of technology development and R&D experience through networks.

Usually, a project is composed of various organizations such as industry-academia-research-institutes to carry out technology development. Recently, the government has been actively supporting companies to provide new products and services through commercialization, not just staying in the R&D stage, and encouraging them to enter the global market. Based on the technological achievements through the project, the company can generate profits and grow.

Coreline Soft's achievements this year through the tasks

Core Line Soft carried out the PE project through the Bio-Medical Technology Commercialization Support Project from 2022 to 2024 with the support of the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Through this project, the company developed AVEIW PE, a software that can be used in actual clinical settings, equipped with a pulmonary embolism detection and segmentation AI. By adding the pulmonary embolism detection AI to the coronary calcification detection AI and aortic dissection analysis AI that the company has already developed and possesses, the company completed the triple rule out (TRO) package and secured global competitiveness in chest CT. The Seoul Metropolitan Government recognized the excellence and innovation of the research and development and awarded the company a citation from the Mayor of Seoul at the 2024 Seoul-style R&D Performance Sharing Conference.

 

In addition, from 2022 to 2024, the company is conducting overseas clinical trials as part of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's support project for the commercialization of innovative medical device companies. Through this project, we successfully conducted clinical trials in the United States with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Cardiovascular Medical Group (CVMG) to verify the efficacy and safety of AVIEW CAC, AVIEW Lung Nodule CAD, and AVIEW IPF. Through clinical trials with overseas institutions, we have accumulated data and applied for or obtained FDA 510(k) certification, which has strengthened the competitiveness of our products and enabled us to enter the global market. In recognition of its contribution to improving public health and the development of the medical device industry as an innovative medical device company, the Ministry of Health and Welfare held the '2024 Health Industry Performance Exchange' and awarded the Korea Health Industry Development Institute President's Commendation.

The role of future tasks

Carrying out tasks through national R&D projects can not only help companies grow, but also develop innovative technologies and gain competitiveness in domestic and international markets by strategically selecting and promoting the right type of task for each R&D stage and company situation, as well as by receiving financial support, technological innovation, and experience. The artificial intelligence technology developed by Core Line Soft is aimed at improving the work efficiency of medical staff, developing innovative technology that can more accurately diagnose more diseases, and further developing the medical device industry and protecting human life. I believe that it is time to discover new tasks that can be supported for the realization of CoreLineSoft's values and the growth of the company and challenge tasks that can take us to the next level.

We will continue to strengthen our technological capabilities by expanding our collaboration with leading domestic and international research institutes, universities, and medical institutions, and through this, we will accumulate unrivaled research and development experience and networks.
2. Laying the Foundation for Sustainable Growth
   Government-supported projects are more than just short-term financial support. We will use the technical and experiential assets we have gained through this to promote long-term growth. CoreLineSoft plans to successfully commercialize the results of its research and development into products and services to create new sources of revenue and further strengthen the company's competitiveness.
3. Strengthening competitiveness in the global medical device industry
   Coreline Soft is not content with its current technological achievements, and aims to set new standards in the global medical device industry through its challenges. By thoroughly analyzing global technology trends and regulatory environments in each country, we plan to proactively secure domestic and international licenses and accelerate our global expansion.
