Summary

This paper reviews the Lung Imaging Reporting and Data System (Lung-RADS) in radiology, focusing on its strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. In 2019, the American College of Radiology introduced Lung-RADS 1.1 to reduce false positives in lung cancer screening compared to Lung-RADS 1.0. In December 2022, the updated Lung-RADS® 2022 was announced. The new system measures nodule size to the first decimal place and categorizes juxtapleural nodules smaller than 10 mm as category 2. It also increases the size criterion for ground glass nodules to 30 mm in category 2 and changes categories 4B and 4X to extremely suspicious. The categorization now considers the location of airway nodules and the shape or wall thickness of atypical pulmonary cysts. This review aims to aid radiologists in understanding Lung-RADS® 2022 by discussing its benefits, drawbacks, and potential enhancements. Aview was used in the research for this paper.
