Airway Measurement for Airway Remodeling Defined by Post-Bronchodilator FEV1/FVC in Asthma: Investigation Using Inspiration/Expiration Computed Tomography

This study aimed to investigate the correlation between CT-derived airway wall measurements and clinical indices in stable asthma patients taking inhaled corticosteroids. The study found significant correlations between several CT parameters, including wall thickness percentage (WT%), wall thickness (WT), bronchial-to-arterial diameter (BA) ratio, airway collapsibility (AC), and air trapping index (ATI), with post-bronchodilator FEV1/FVC, a noninvasive marker of airway remodeling. Additionally, WT, WT%, and WA% were found to be negatively correlated with lung function tests. The study suggests that WT%, WT, BA ratio, and AC on inspiration and expiration CT can be reliable indices for measuring airway remodeling in stable asthma patients. The airway measurement method employed in this study was transferred to AVIEW COPD software, which offers a convenient and effective way to analyze airway remodeling in patients with stable asthma.
