E. Lee et al. conducted a propensity-matched cohort study to compare the outcomes of surgery and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) for stage I lung cancer in Koreans, utilizing AVIEW LCS (AI-based CAD software) for tumor characterization. Data from 2,055 surgical patients and 219 SBRT patients treated between 2012 and 2021 at Yonsei University were retrospectively analyzed. SBRT patients were older (63.5 vs. 77.7 years) and had more smokers, while surgery patients had higher adenocarcinoma prevalence. After matching 150 patients per group based on age, sex, smoking status, and tumor features, recurrence rates (SBRT: 11.4%, surgery: 10.7%) showed no significant difference. This demonstrates that SBRT is a viable alternative to surgery for patients unable to undergo invasive procedures.
