Summary

This study aimed to identify predictive factors for treatment responsiveness in 226 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using baseline CT scans. Patients received a combination of inhaled long-acting beta-agonists and corticosteroids. Quantitative analysis of the scans revealed that the IBHB-measured Pi10 parameter was the only independent variable significantly associated with an increase in forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) after treatment (p = 0.003, adjusted odds ratio: 1.787). The researchers utilized the commercial software AVIEW from Coreline Soft to accurately measure standardized airway dimensions on the CT scans, enabling the prediction of treatment responsiveness in COPD patients. This finding contributes to the development of personalized treatment strategies based on quantitative CT scan analysis.
