Summary
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a complex and heterogeneous condition characterized by varying combinations of emphysema, small airways disease, and chronic bronchitis. Previously, quantification of chest CT imaging had limitations in its application to clinical practices. However, recent advances in pulmonary imaging technologies, particularly the use of artificial intelligence (AI), have significantly improved the quantification of chest CT imaging. In this article, the authors discuss the current situation, limitations, and future role of chest CT imaging quantification in the assessment of COPD, showcasing numerous examples from AVIEW COPD by Coreline Soft. These AI-driven advancements hold the potential to transform the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of this complex disease.
